This century, India will grow to be the third largest economy in the world. Whether invested there or not, it will have a profound impact on portfolios, so it’s imperative those who build portfolios develop an in-depth understanding of this market and its place in portfolios. You just cannot do that sitting in an office in Australia. Quicklinks

A BRIC+ Study Tour is a highly tailored, week-long, in-country program focused
on one Big Rapidly Industrialising Country to materially increase delegates'
understanding of the market, the investment options, and its role in portfolio
construction. They are specifically designed for portfolio construction
practitioners: Our Study Tour kicks off in Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, with a familiarisation day, and two days in back-to-back economic and investment briefings and site visits. We then travel to Bangalore to visit to a modern technology campus. Then it’s north to Delhi, the political centre of India, for further briefings and site visits, a reception at the Australian High Commission, and in-depth briefing with our Indian elder statesman (“Guru”) discussing India’s rich business and social history and future prospects, as well as visits to the majestic Red Fort and Taj Mahal. |

Economy/ |
Will India succeed in becoming “the knowledge capital of the world”, leveraging its young, educated and English-speaking population economy? Can it regain its 9% plus GDP growth of recent years? What are the investment opportunities in India, and how should they be assessed and accessed? What are the short- and long-term risks for investors? We hear from selected members of our panel of local experts who work and live on a daily basis in India’s economy and investment markets. |

Politics |
India is the world’s largest democracy and proves growth is possible within a free, democratic society. But to what extent does this slow economic progress and the pace of reform required to maintain a fast growing economy? How are India’s bureaucrats approaching the challenge? Who are the key decision-makers? |

Business |
India’s rapid evolution since the late 1980s to today’s dynamic business environment has created many challenges. India’s successful entrepreneurs have now become household names on a global scale. We meet and talk to business leaders (foreign and local) for a detailed examination of the local business environment, including the key business sectors that drive India’s economy. |

|
History |
No visit to India is complete without gaining an understanding of its rich cultural history. We host many of our briefings around historical sites, including the Taj Mahal and the Bombay Stock Exchange. One highlight includes a visit to the backstreets of Old Delhi for an eye-opening look at how trade has been conducted at a grass roots level for many decades. |

Society |
A key challenge for India’s leaders is to balance its economic growth with the demands, expectations and aspirations of its 1.1 billion population. Local experts help us understand the socio-economic issues and their drivers – including the gap between those at the top and bottom of the social pyramid – and the challenges faced by India’s government to improve the living standards and conditions in rural as well as urban communities. |

Implementation |
To ensure knowledge gained while on BRIC+ Study Tour is put to good use in designing investor portfolios, the program is structured to include delegate discussion and debate during the week. This includes several implementation debates, facilitated by Graham Rich, Publisher of PortfolioConstruction Forum – including a final implementation workshop on our last day. |
